Our aim is to teach analytical skills and improved learning methods to children from low income backgrounds, which they would not otherwise be exposed to, in the system of rote learning.
We believe that education is not the memorization of a vast store of facts or data. Education is the most comprehensive training of the human instincts, mind and body, to think and act in a manner which is always constructive and most conducive to its individual and social good and happiness, and which is, at the same time, necessarily in harmony with nature.
Education should attempt to impart knowledge of the various concepts in a manner which would be thoroughly understood and retained; in a manner which would enable the children to use them practically, and understand their true nature and significance in the total scheme of knowledge.
Education must rediscover, and motivate, the latent creative and innovative talents in each child, and equip them with the confidence, the opportunity, and the know how required for practicing and developing these talents.
Alif Laila Hobby Clubs programme was initiated in 1988.Under this project, school children are taught an assortment of skills. These clubs are used to promote project-based learning as part of Alif Laila’s efforts to modernize education in Lahore.
The equipment and resources available are one of the unique and powerful tools of these hobby clubs. Moreover, the conducive learning environment of our clubs can help us achieve higher and more useful educational objectives with spectacular success.
Alif Laila has set up a number of Hobby Clubs and is in the process of setting up others. Photography Club is in the process of being re-done with the latest technologies applied in developing and printing. The clubs currently in operation by Alif Laila Book Bus Society are:
