After our vast experience in setting up and running many schools we decided to create our own school furniture line. These unique designs not only serve the purpose of a desk, table or chair but can be used as teaching aids as well. Made of durable wood these pieces are perfect for schools as they are up to surviving a lot of wear and tear. After the devastating earthquake in Pakistan, Save The Children UK engaged Alif Laila team as consultants. We planned and had made 2 play buses which were sent to Bagh and Muzaffarabad. These buses were like little Alif Laila’s on wheels. Equipped with all sorts of Art and Craft supplies, soft toys, bicycles, board games, story books and educational toys, these play buses really were designed to spread sunshine wherever they went. After the completion of these buses the team also carried out a short workshop to ensure that the staff that was to manage these busses in the affected areas would do so in a way to ensure maximum usage. Finally both the busses christened “JOY” were sent of with the best wishes of the children of Lahore for the children of Bagh and Muzaffarabad. |

Alif Laila in collaboration with Save The Children UK has also set up a Safe Play area in Islamabad for all the children that were brought down from the earthquake affected areas of Bagh and Muzaffrabad. Here the children were made to feel happy and comfortable as their surroundings were made bright and cheerful. This area also served as a make shift school till they were allowed to go back to their cities.
After these children left, Alif Laila converted this center to a school for street children. Here we hope to bring in all the kids that roam the streets of Islamabad and show them the importance as well beauty of literacy, so that they themselves start to realize that a better tomorrow is possible…….. |
